My reflection on Gr.11 Community Arts, in this course our first project was to address the issue with our school nickname ‘The Crusaders’ in this project we researched the crusaders’ history and broke down why we should not have that nickname, along with some replacements for the mascot and name. I think this project is really important because there have been people pushing for a name change since the eighties, and if our school is supposed to be a safe inclusive space why are we being represented by a mascot that represents division and take over. I think that project was very important to bring more attention to this because a lot of people don’t even know the history behind the crusaders. Another project that was good for our school was our CPT library project it is practical for our library to get a revamp and it was easy to understand what art people wanted to put in our library. I think the easiest part of this course was working with the people in our class we got along pretty well and it made the workload less stressful it was also helpful to hear their honest opinions during the creation of the artwork.

My Second Post
This blog will be about my Gr.11 Community Arts CPT, for our CPT we had to choose a spot in our school library and create artwork based on what the users of the library wanted. First, we did interviews, we asked people who came to the library what they liked about the library and what they wanted to change. A lot of people said they enjoyed the current artwork but there were a lot of blank walls people wanted to fill, as for the themes and color palette people wanted calm colors that wouldn’t distract from their work and themes of nature and diversity. So my group came up with the idea to create a library setting where books would be falling off shelves and in the books are different stories from different cultures and also well know stories like Alice in Wonderland. The group split the work so that each of us did two books.
For my portion of the CPT, I did the Cheshire cat and a Marine life book. The reason I did the Cheshire cat was that one of my group members suggested we work together, she would do the but of the Cheshire cat coming out of one book and I would do the head so it looked like he was traveling through a portal kinda like how he teleports in the movies and books. At first, the Idea was she was going to do the cartoon version of him and I was going to do the realistic vision but because digital art is new to me I would not be able to complete that in time so I change it to the cartoon version too. As for my other image we wanted to incorporate more nature because a lot of people said that they wanted that so I decided to do a marine life for one of my books I did a shark with some tropical fish surrounding it and I’m pretty proud of how it turned out considering I am not a digital artist.
